Audun and the Bear

Long, long ago, there lived a young man called Audun in Iceland.

One spring. he decided to sail to Norway.

Audun reached Greenland with the captain of the ship. He was

Overwhelmed by the beauty of the majestic polar bear. He decided to

give up all his savings to buy the bear. I will gift this treasure to the

king of Denmark, he thought.

The king was delighted to receive the gift and in return offered

Audun a stay at his palace for as long as he wished. Three years passed

by and Audun began to miss his mother.

"I must get back to my mother now," he said and thanked the king

for his hospitality and, as a token from the king. took along with him a

large purse bearing the royal crest, which was full of gold coins. Audun

reached home, a rich and prosperous man.
